Getting the New Year off to a good start with your special someone

Believe it or not, there’s just a little over two months left of 2018 before 2019 comes marching into our lives. And while we can all probably agree that each passing year has seemed to have whizzed by faster than the previous ones, it’s never too late to prepare yourself for the new year- especially when it comes to having (an informal) plan of action for your special someone. We at Manor on High have a few essentials for you to consider which is sure to get your New Year off to a fantastic start…

The art of listening

In an era which vehemently believes in conversing via emojis, abbreviations and other shortest possible alternatives of communication, most people seem to miss out on taking the effort to actually listen to what the other person has to say. This becomes a more pressing issue in relationships, where the essence of spending time together is lost due to communication breakdowns.

Patience is a key ingredient in developing your art of listening in a relationship. Ensure that you engage in the conversation with all your attention and effort. Of course, your body language is also important while you spend time communicating with your special someone. Once you’ve cracked the mantra to listen effectively, a lion’s share of the smoothness of the relationship is taken care of.  Needless to say, it’s among the least taxing methods of enhancing what you share together. Go ahead, add the art of listening to your 2019 list of resolutions, and thank us later!

A little PDA hurt nobody

It’s 2018 and some of us still haven’t gotten over the phobia for PDA… Public Displays of Affection.  This can be both overwhelming and exciting for couples, leaving them with mixed feelings about it. While PDA can often be reflective of the level of comfort between you and your special someone, we believe that the same can hold the key to adding that much needed luster to your compatibility.

What better way than welcoming the new year with a pledge to leave behind all the awkwardness around showing your special person how you truly feel. After all, an occasional holding of hands, some flirtatious pickup lines or even a peck or two really doesn’t hurt.

Some pampering for the soul

Let’s face it, it’s hard to say “no” to some much-needed pampering sessions.  Connecting over a pamper session will reap the rewards of togetherness.  Be it an appointment at a spa, couples massage or simply a romantic candle-lit dinner at home, be sure to surprise each other with some occasional pampering to get your new year off to a great start.

C for creativity, D for dates

That’s right, creativity always precedes dates; and not just in the dictionary. While we’ll probably need a completely different article especially dedicated to date ideas for couples, we’d also like to remind you that a new year is always a good time to try something new. Like we mentioned earlier, even a simple yet heartful candle-lit date at home can make all the difference. Of course, ticking off date-worthy items from your bucket list with your special someone can blend in well with new year resolutions too! Volunteer at community services together, workout your fitness goals together, hit the nearest drive-in cinemas or even babysit together! Get creative with your date ideas and your special someone is sure to feel extra special!

Travel is always the answer

Working on exciting travel plans together and then travelling is a great way to learn more about each other. Be it roaming around and discovering hidden gems in your own city or state, filling the car up and heading off far away from all the hustle and bustle, traveling with your special someone is often the perfect answer to add meaning to your relationship as well as paving the way for a future brimming with hope and adventure. The essence of hope and discovery is best symbolized by travel and blends wonderfully with what a new year can hold for one and all.
