Oh dear, no tears!

There are few memories and life events which put human emotions to test as much as weddings do. It’s a rollercoaster ride through anxiety, excitement and truckloads of joy. However, an excess of joy can often overflow into tears; AKA your mascara’s arch nemesis. While tears of joy are a heart-warming sight to observe at weddings, here are a few tried and tested ways of avoiding them weeps at one of the happiest days of your life!

Picture perfect beginnings

Arrange for your wedding photographer to have a photoshoot much before the ceremony, preferably in private- a pleasant reality check about the beautiful journey you’re about to embark on. This ensures an incredibly romantic setting for the shoot as well as much more time to spend with your guests on your actual day of the wedding.

Practice makes perfect

We cannot stress enough how important and useful wedding rehearsals are- especially alongside your better half. We know you’d probably like to keep your wedding vows a secret, but practicing them can actually make it more memorable on the Day. It’s the best way to brace yourself for the big day, and gives you the perfect balance of being prepared as well as being at your best and as tear-free as possible on the day of the wedding!

Music Therapy

The right kind of playlist can set the right kind of mood for nearly anything in life. It’s no different for weddings!  Go for upbeat, soothing or any track that relaxes you, while you’re getting ready. Of course, it can range from instrumental music all the way to metal. The choice clearly is yours. Needless to mention, this holds true for what you wish to listen to as you walk down the aisle as well.

Breathe before you take his breath away

We could’ve recommended Yoga, but we’ll keep that for some other day. Long, meditative breaths during the ceremony is the key to being calm.  A relaxed state of mind can help you concentrate well and take in each moment of the magical day with a smile on your face.

A few D-Day Distractions

While the spotlight is on you on the big day, a few subtle distractions can help you stay cool and composed. As silly as this is going to sound, pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth can actually help hold back tears. As for the growing nervousness, something as simple as wriggling your toes can instantly pump blood back to your oxygen-hungry brain; and before you know it, you’re back on track! Attention Math geeks- indulging in some mental mathematics can also keep your mind off a momentary emotional outburst.

A Vow to Wow

Wedding vows are the ultimate tear-jerkers for both couples as well as guests alike. While we do not wish to disrupt the quality of literature which goes into a truly intense wedding vow, we do believe that a few tweaks can come in handy. Of course, a dose of humour can never go wrong, and is perfect to lighten the tension for yourself as well as everyone around you.  A few giggles and smiles are always a better deal than endless weeping on the most memorable day of your life!

Needless to mention, there are plenty more personalized tricks and techniques to shoo away tears on your wedding day. While we agree that a few tears do add to the sheer essence and vibe of the ceremony, we also believe that looking one’s best is a must-do on your big day. So, brace yourself, hold back those tears and replace them with smiles and memories you will cherish for eternity!
